Sterling Simms (a.k.a. David Davidson a.k.a. Jack Johnson)
Leaving Nathan laying in the office to heal, the posse returned to their watch of the yard. At roughly 1:30 AM, a bloody and bruised Seamus stumbled into the light from the darkness of the surrounding yard. Oddly enough, he allowed Sterling to perform frontier dentistry on him (removing a tooth), before explaining to the group that he had been taken into custody by Confederate soldiers. That was the reason why he did not arrive at the railyard earlier that night.
He had been taken to the Four Courts Building where he was questioned by Lieutenant James about Sterling Simms. Apparently, bodies had been found at Iron Mountain that showed damage similar to the damage caused by Sterling’s new science pistol. Additionally, one of the dead men was the smuggler on whom Sterling had informed the authorities. Therefore, Sterling was wanted for questioning concerning the men’s deaths. Sterling had been seen over the past few days in St. Louis with a new ridiculous hat so Lieutenant James believed him to still be in town, but could find no record of him at any of the hotels. Seamus stone-walled Lieutenant James, revealing little, but did mention a fabrication that he missed an appointment to met Sterling at the St. Louis KC & LR Railyard at noon.
After Lieutenant James finished his questioning, Seamus was allowed to leave, but was first lead to a small room in the basement by a sergeant and private where they taught him what they thought of his protection of a murderer. He was beaten, but suffered no worse than bruises (-1 Fatigue). Seamus then left Four Courts Building, taking a round-about path to the railyard to meet the others and warn Sterling.
The remainder of the night was spent watching for the return of the railyard ghost (or Confederate soldiers), but nothing else interrupted the posse’s night watch.
